Things to Do Near Cheshire Boutique Barns…..

Carfest North, Chester Races, Tatton RHS Flower Show, Oulton Park Motor Races, National Trust Days Out, Live Music Concerts …. there’s so much happening year round near Cheshire Boutique Barns that one of the best ways to keep up with it all is to click HERE to visit the events section on our Facebook page, but meanwhile, here are just a few ideas to keep you going ….

1. Be Pampered

2. Walk in the Beautiful Bickerton Hills

The Bickerton Hills and the stunning Sandstone Trail (36 miles of National Trust land to stroll through) are just up the road.  There are hundreds of different walks with fantastic views, wild ponies and lovely pubs along the way.  Click here for information about walks.  More information about the famous Sandstone trail click here.

 Of course, walking can be thirsty work so why not park up at The Phesant Inn, a lovely pub situated high on the Sandstone Ridge just 6 miles away and start your walk from there then reward yourself with fab food and views to die for across the Cheshire plains on your return.  

3. Go Gin Tasting

Not only is our fabulous local, The Cholmondeley Arms (see above) The Good Pub Guide’s ‘Gin Pub of The Year 2019’ but now Cheshire’s very own gin distillery, Three Wrens Gin has launched in our village!  With The Cholmondeley Arms offering private gin tasting classes (they have over 400 different types of gin) and Three Wrens Gin offering distillery tours and tastings there really is nowhere better that Cheshire Boutique Barns for a gin lovers weekend!

4. Catch the Train from Our village to Shrewsbury or Ludlow

Shrewsbury is a beautiful, old market town with lovely shops, restaurants and an old listed cinema and it is just a short train journey through countryside from our village of Wrenbury.  Ludlow is a food and antique lover’s heaven, again, a really pretty old Market town with a large castle.  Just drive 2 miles to Wrenbury Station in the village (left out of drive, past the shop, turn right at the school, station approx. 1 mile ahead on left) For more train times visit nationalrail.co.uk

and just type in Wrenbury to Shrewsbury and be prepared to have to stick your hand out on the platform to ask the train to stop!

5. Enjoy a Long Leisurely Breakfast, Brunch or Sunday Lunch

Our lovely local,  The Dusty Miller Pub, is an old converted mill that sits on the edge of the canal just a short stroll along the lane.  Other great places to have breakfast are www.dearford.net , a glass and oak café on the edge of a scenic lake with real fires, leather sofas and the papers or cheerbrook.co.uk farm shop in Nantwich.  

6. Talk With the Animals at Chester Zoo

Fancy a fabulous day out with more than 12,000 amazing animals?  Chester is the UK’s top zoo, with 110 acres of award-winning enclosures and gardens to explore.  There are over 400 different species at the zoo, including some of the most exotic and endangered animals in the world. 7. Enjoy Afternoon Tea in the Beautiful Grounds of Cholmondeley Castle

It’s just 2 miles away  Cholmondeleycastle.com. Other great places for afternoon tea, Chester Grosvenor.com (put your glad rags on!) or try The Residence in Nantwich.

8.Go to Chester, Manchester or Liverpool for the Day

Go shopping, sightseeing or just take in a show in Manchester or Liverpool.  To Drive to Manchester or Liverpool takes approx. 40 minutes.  The beautiful  walled city of Chester, 20 minutes.

9.  Bring out Your Inner Masterchef at Our Local, Award Winning Cookery School

It’s run by Brianmellor.co.uk. Whether you fancy an evening ‘demo ‘n’ dine’ or a full day workshop there’s lots of culinary experiences to choose from at Brian Mellor’s Cookery School just a short 4 mile drive away.

10. On Yer Bike!

From canal towpaths and gentle inclines, to serious downhills and awesome off-roading you’ll be sure to find a cycle route for you in Cheshire.  Cheshire Boutique Barns sit on one of the designated beautiful cycle routes of Cheshire so you can set out into stunning, gentle countryside from your doorstep!  For more information visit Visitcheshire.com

12. Tip Toe Through The Tree Tops at Delamere forest ‘Go Ape’ Experience

Go Ape is a brilliant ‘tree-top adventure’ full of high wires, tricky crossings (using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire) and wind-in-your-face zip wires.  They will kit you out with harnesses, pulleys and karabiners, give you a 30 minute safety briefing and training [ and then let you loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees.

For those that prefer being a little closer to the ground there’s the Segways too!

13. Go To The Races, Visit Car Fest North or Rock it Out at The 80’s Rewind Festival

There’s so much going on in this part of the world and much of it right on our doorstep!  Cholmondeley Pageant of Power Cpop.co.uk held at Cholmondeley Castle www.cholmondeleycastle.co.uk is just two miles up the lane, Carfest North www.carfest.org, Bolesworth Castle and Oulton Park  oultonpark.co.uk are just 10 miles away and of course, Chester-races.co.uk are just a 20 minute drive away – and we even have our own private driver to take you there!  Also the www.rewindfestival.com.

These are just some of the many events happening every year near Cheshire Boutique Barns.

14. Agonise over Ice-Cream

Whether you’ve got kids or you’re just a big kid at heart you’ll love Cheshirefarmicecream.co.uk.  The biggest ice-cream parlour in Europe just 10 minutes away.  Watch the cows being milked, see how the ice-cream’s made then knock yourself out trying to choose which one to have out of the 50 plus (many, gold award winning flavours) they make.  There’s also a large café and play barn and much, much more.  The Pheasant Inn pub is just a couple of miles from there too (see ‘Great places to Eat Out’) so stop for lunch or supper on the way there or back.

15. Go Mountain Biking, Running or Walking

16. Visit One of The Many Spectacular Nearby Gardens

We are so lucky to have so many truly unique and inspiring gardens on our doorstep, Comberemere Abbey, Cholmondeley Castle, The Sunken Quarry Garden in Shrewsbury, Wollerton Old Hall Gardens, Tatton Park and last but by no means least, the stunning gardens of one of our nearest neighbours Dorfold Hall (below).

17. Ruin a Good Walk

Carden Park has three beautiful golf courses.  Hill Valley Golf Club is also very close by.  Both have swimming pools and spas for the other halves too.
